Coneheads

cupcake ice cream cone

Mmmm. ... Ice cream cone.

Nope. Guess again.

Mmmm. ... Cupcake.

I tried out this cupcake-in-a-cone thing last weekend as a test of my baking prowess. I wanted to see if I could I make 100 of these little delicacies for Annabel's birthday party next month. (They're so small, even the little people will need at least three).

I only made a couple dozen (all of them gone now) but I think I can do it.

*Fill cone halfway with cake batter
*Stand in muffin tin
*Bake as usual
*Pipe on frosting
*Sprinkle with festive, dinosaur candy toppings

Easy as pie cupcakes.

The real problem will be figuring out a way to transport these little thumb-sized cups of goodness to the Skate Factory where the party is going to be held.

I'll go insane if I have to make a tray by cutting 100 holes in box tops. I'll let Jed do that part. He's crafty.

  2. That looks like a photo from Everyday Food or another just-as-professional cooking mag. Lovely, and I'm betting delicious as well.

I am totally going to steal this idea! I can use a cake mix for the batter right? Doesn't the cone burn though?

  5. nope. no burning. they do get a tiny bit softer, though. So fill them right before the go into the oven. don't let the sit around waiting to be baked for too long or they'll get rubbery.

**i'm planning on getting a squeeze bottle to insert the batter next time. less mess and less chance to overfill.

I've always been afraid to bake the ice cream cone, which is why I've never made ice cream cone cupcakes. It seems like the cones would burn or something. I know people do it, but I always thought there was a trick to it or something. Guess not. I'll have to give it a try.
