I have been looking at this picture, and in its simplicity I see a more complicated event as described with your title. A young boy with all his smallness exposed to a tradition of our much larger adult culture, possibly for the first time. His casual stance with his hands behind his back expresses to me his wishing to watch and not be intrusive. His small but apparent facial expression reads of a curiosity that is necessary to the learning process of our species...he is interested and absorbing the details of this experience...
And then again, he may just be hungry and waiting for his burger!
