Random Question Thursday

summerish, originally uploaded by toyfoto.

What is one of your favorite* summer-time memories?

*It doesn't have to be your favorite, just say the first thing that comes to mind.

I think for me "Summer" and "Memory" will always harken staying with friends (for weeks at a time) at their camp in Washington County. If I had to pull out a single memory from those days as being among my favorites, it would be playing hide-n-seek after dark: Danger, excitement and childhood all wrapped up into one activity.

Running through the sprinklers barefoot in my parents' front yard. The dog ran with us and we'd all be soaking, giggling, and soaked to our bones.

Afterwards we sat on the porch and spat watermelon seeds as far as we could while we dried off. My mom wouldn't let us in the towel dripping wet lol =)

childhood.... playing at the beach with my friends and family - I grew up where it was only a short drive to the beach so we went often... I remember eating sandwich's on blankets in front of the roaring ocean....

current.... the sound of my kid's laughter outdoors, picking flowers with the boys and days at the pool!

Our Summer Thursdays outings. All of them together made last summer the best that I can remember. Looking forward to more this year.

When I was a kid, playing outside with the neighborhood kids in warm summer evenings.

I love that photo of Annabel, Siobhan. Love.

Thanks for playing, you guys.

Sandwiches at the beach. How brave. That's NOT one of Jed's happier memories. I love it, though.

And Summer Thursdays totally rock, as do sprinkers.

Our summers now, as an adult I mean, just seem the same as any other season only with sticky hot commutes to work and a couple of weeks in Maine visiting family.

Hige-in-seek after dark would be near the top of my list as well.

Swmming all day long in our pool was way up there on the list...it paid off when I was older and a boat me and some friends were in capsized about a half mile from shore. I had the only person in the boat who could not swim hang on to my shoulders from behind and i did the breast-stroke in...as you can see we made it in OK.

Ah. ... memories. Your swimming story, kcoz, reminds me of my own ... holy *hit moment:

I was at the aforementioned camp, swimming in the large pond behind it, aptly named Dead Man's Pond. I had swum to the middle, where I experienced a leg cramp. My leg folded up so that my heel was right against my bum; and I couldn't move it for the life of me. Up until that moment I really never understood what getting a "cramp" when swimming was like. Afterward, I could totally see how a good swimmer can drowned.

Suffice it to say: I didn't panic. I yelled out that I needed help, and I just floated on my back until someone got a canoe out to me. Eventually, the cramp had subsided and I was able to swim to shore.

WOW...I never had a cramp when swimming but I did hear about them.
One time we were swimming across a lake in Wisconsin, about 2 miles, it was the beginning of summer and I did not have my swimming legs yet, or my endurance. About 3/4 of the way across I panicked and wanted to turn around. My friend and I started to argue, he was trying to explain to me we were almost to the other side. Eventually I cam to my senses and continued. When we arrived on shore he told me; "I thought I would have to knock you out out there and drag you in, you were unreasonable!"
